MIUI 12 launched with the major visual redesign, Dark Mode 2.0, and more

Xiaomi is back with the latest MIUI 12 update. It’s time to upgrade from MIUI 11 to new MIUI 12. Xiaomi released a new version of their Android MIUI skin. The new MIUI 12 software will carry a range of UI and visual enhancements.   It also gets new features including a redesigned dark mode, improved tools for privacy and security, new animations, new wallpapers, and much more.

Let’s break down all of MIUI 12’s latest features along with specifics of phones that are registered for the upgrade.

Xiaomi has introduced “Super Wallpapers” with MIUI 12. Based on available space exploration data from NASA, the company has designed high precision animated 3D models of Mars and Earth. You will customize both your locked and open phone screens for the Super Wallpapers. If the dark mode is enabled, the world you have selected can also be used to add to your visual interactions at night.

New animations

When it comes to MIUI 12, Xiaomi has focused a lot on the visual redesign. The new skin will provide realistic weather animations and show the changes in real-time on your screen in the form of a time-lapse film.

The icons of the app animation also receive an update. App icons will now generate feedback on your actions in real time. Xiaomi says changes in gesture direction and speed will result in different application icons reacting.

Dark Mode 2.0

The new MIUI 12 Dark Mode 2.0 will provide Xiaomi phones with dimming wallpaper. The feature works hand in hand with daytime and will slowly dim the wallpaper when night time changes.

Xiaomi also tweaks the manner in which text is shown when users move between light and dark modes. In MIUI 12, when the dark mode turns on, the handset automatically adjusts the type weight and boldness. The contrast of the fountain is adapted according to the environment of the user. In low-light conditions, this should improve text readability considerably.

New gestures and Improvements

MIUI 12 also gives your phones some new gestures. For example, the notifications panel can be swiped down to interact with a notification without having to give it up. You can also swipe the message panel off to expand into a tiny window, and drag it sideways for a scattering effect.

Enhanced privacy

MIUI 12 also provides Xiaomi phones with enhanced privacy. You can grant permissions for apps once or only during your use. Authorisations are revocated once an app is used. The “Always Allow” option is not available for apps that do not clarify the use of phone permissions.
