Why is TikTok including 58 other Chinese apps banned in India?
This isn’t India’s first restriction on TikTok. Last year, Google and Apple were instructed by the Government of India to remove the app from their app stores for pornographies concerns. Indian lawmakers believed that TikTok promoted explicit content sharing and “cultural degradation.” However, the ban was lifted within a week.
The scenarios are different now. In the past, TikTok had already voilated COPPA, a children’s privacy law and was fined $5.7 million. In the past TikTok and other apps were suspected for privacy concern but they never learn a thing.
Here is the official tweet from TikTok in response to the recent ban.
Section 69A of the IT Act 2000 grants the Central Government the power to censor and detain the offenders of online material. It is India’s main rule on cybercrime and online trade. So, apps were found guilty under violation of privacy and bad impacts on culture.
Conclusion
Hence, It is strongly suggested to all the Indian citizen to avoid the use of these application and supports the steps taken by Indian Government. In the world where data is everything, Indian Government took a right step to control the data leak and impact on the culture.
Although, you may still find these apps on play store or appstore in India. They will be removed as soon as Government of India orders Google and Apple for the removal.
